About Feathercoons
Our Story
Feathercoons was developed through extensive research and selection of some of the best breeding cats from around the world. This work is deeply personal to me.
My name is Gabi Villegas, and while I sometimes joke I have a Maine Coon addiction, my appreciation for this breed began long before Feathercoons existed.
I was raised in Germany near a small farm close to the Black Forest, where my connection to animals and nature took root early on. That upbringing not only shaped my love for animals, but also my strong ties to Europe, an influence that continues to guide my breeding preferences today.
Within the Maine Coon breed, I am drawn to European-influenced lines that reflect exceptional beauty, strength, and character. I devote an extraordinary amount of time to sourcing the best cats worldwide. I study the pedigrees in-depth and prioritizing health, temperment, and beautiful conformation.
Feathercoons is not about trends or numbers, but about raising cats who are absolutely stunning, healthy, and well-suited to life as cherished members of the family.
Because our cats are so special to us, we are equally thoughtful about the homes they join. Each kitten is placed with families who understand the remarkable nature of this breed, and who are committed to providing the space, enrichment, and companionship they deserve. They really are so much more than just a pet- and once you’ve had the honor of having one, you may find it hard to imagine life without them.❤️
Our Philosophy
At Feathercoons, we believe in responsible breeding practices that prioritize the health and well-being of our cats as well as our precious kittens.
Did you know that Maine Coons are prone to certain diseases and conditions? Responsible breeding means understanding these risks and making informed, proactive decisions to minimize them. Depending on age, breeding plans, and lineage this may include echocardiograms done by a veterinary cardiologist, full panel DNA for over 40 diseases and conditions, fecal and upper respiratory PCRs, hip X-rays, and kidney screening.
This is our commitment to this amazing breed but also our commitment to you, to ensure we are doing as much as we can to bring you only the best.
Our Facilities
We are located in Wappingers Falls, New York (in the Beautiful Hudson Valley, only 2 hours north of NYC!). Our “facilities” is really just our small in-home cattery that is designed to provide the best possible environment for our cats and kittens .
We have spacious areas with plenty of cat trees, lots of human interaction, and a big loving Bernese Mountain Dog to help socialize your new fur family member. Mothers and babies are always separated in their own comfortable areas within our living room. This ensures the kittens are hearing and seeing every day life and coming home to you as sociable and “bomb proof” as possible.
